Deposits, returns & warranty
What we promise, in writing.
We have been in business since 1974, and the reason for that longevity is simple: we are strong in our morals and values, and we stand behind our work. We will always endeavor to conduct business in good faith and with honor. The policies below exist to set clear expectations, but our commitment to treating you fairly extends beyond anything written here.
Please read this policy carefully. By placing a deposit, you agree to the terms below. This policy applies to all custom and made-to-order jewelry created by Ring Mint. We are based in the United States and ship internationally at our discretion.
Custom and made-to-order work
Every piece Ring Mint creates is designed and produced specifically for you. Because of the personalized, one-of-a-kind nature of this work, the terms below differ from those of ready-made retail jewelry.
Deposits
Main stone(s) deposit. When we select your main stone(s), a deposit of 50% of the stone(s)’ price is due. This deposit is refundable up to 20 days from the date we receive the stone(s). From day 21 onward, or once we have begun production on your final piece, whichever comes first, the stone(s) deposit is no longer refundable. Where more than one stone is sourced for your piece, the deposit applies to all stones selected.
Production deposit. When we begin production on your fully approved final piece, a deposit of 50% of the piece’s price is due. This deposit is non-refundable, as it covers materials and labor committed specifically to your design.
Final balance. In all cases, the full remaining balance is due before your finished piece is shipped or released to you.
Non-refundable stones and pieces. Certain stones or pieces may be non-refundable from the outset (for example, specialty or specially-sourced stones). Where this is the case, we will tell you in advance and in writing. A deposit is still required as described above, but it will not be refundable.
Design approval and change orders
We will work with you to finalize your design before production begins. Once you have approved the CAD or final design, any changes requested after that point may cost extra and may reset the production timeline. We will let you know if a requested change carries additional cost or delay before we proceed.
Returns
Fully custom jewelry is non-returnable due to its custom nature.
That said, we want you to love your piece. If something isn’t right, we will work with you in good faith to find a solution, which may include: reworking the piece, helping to liquidate it and recover value where possible, or applying its value as a credit toward a different project. These accommodations are offered at our discretion and depend on the specific circumstances. No outcome or amount is guaranteed.
Ready-made and sourced pieces
In addition to custom work, we sometimes source ready-made pieces. These pieces may carry a discretionary return window, which we will communicate to you in writing at the time of purchase. Where a return window applies, pieces must be returned within that window in their original packaging and original, unworn condition. Items returned damaged, altered, worn, or without their original packaging are not eligible for return.
Shipping
We ship within the United States and will ship internationally at our discretion. We insure every package we send at full value and use reputable carriers, but we cannot guarantee the handling or safety of third-party carriers once a package leaves our hands. In the event of loss or damage in transit, we will assist you in filing an insurance claim with the carrier.
For international shipments, any customs duties, import taxes, or other fees imposed by the destination country are the customer’s responsibility, and delivery timelines may be affected by customs processing.
Appraisal
Every finished piece comes with an appraisal certificate prepared by Ring Mint stating a retail replacement value. This figure is intended for insurance purposes and reflects the cost to replace the item at retail. It is not a statement of resale value, market value, or the price the piece would command if sold.
Warranty
We stand behind our craftsmanship. Every Ring Mint piece is warranted against manufacturing defects for the first year from the date you receive it. If a defect in materials or workmanship appears within this period, we will repair it at no charge.
After the first year, coverage is at our discretion. True to our commitment to good faith, we review each situation on its own merits and always aim to reach a fair outcome.
This warranty does not cover:
- Normal wear and tear (including surface scratches, finish wear, thinning of metal over time, and loosening that results from ordinary use)
- Damage from accidents, misuse, or severe abuse
- Loss of the piece or of any stone due to impact, snagging, or failure to maintain the piece
- Damage or defects resulting from work performed by any jeweler other than Ring Mint (including resizing, repairs, stone setting, or cleaning)
- Loss, theft, or damage that occurs after the piece is in your possession (these are matters for your own insurance)
To keep your warranty valid, please have all repairs, resizing, and adjustments performed by Ring Mint. We recommend insuring your piece against loss, theft, and accidental damage using the appraisal certificate provided.
